As part of our ongoing commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, EH Smith our proud to announce a significant milestone in our journey toward greater environmental sustainability.
From July 2025, we will begin replacing most of our older diesel-powered forklifts with 38 brand new all-electric models. This marks one of our most significant operational upgrades in recent years and a clear sign of our dedication to cleaner, more efficient ways of working.
Alongside this upgrade, we have also made the decision to slightly reduce the overall size of our forklift fleet, a strategic move designed to help offset the increased upfront costs associated with electric models, while improving efficiency through smarter fleet management.
Infrastructure Upgrades to Support the Shift
This transformation involved a substantial investment aimed at preparing our infrastructure to support the new fleet. This includes:
- Upgraded fire detection systems within our warehouse facilities, enhancing safety protocols
- Installation of electric charging units, strategically located to maximise accessibility and efficiency
- Training for warehouse staff and fleet managers, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations with the new electric systems
Collaboration and Team Effort
We couldn’t have achieved this transition without the dedication and input of our branch teams. Their flexibility and collaboration were essential in trialling various forklift options, testing equipment, and providing feedback. This hands-on approach has been invaluable in making the best choice for our long-term needs.
We’re proud to confirm that Linde Material Handling will supply our new electric forklifts. Linde has been a trusted partner of EH Smith for nearly 20 years, and we’re delighted to continue this relationship into a greener and more innovative future.
Looking Ahead
This upgrade is just one of many sustainability-focused initiatives we have planned. By investing in cleaner technology today, we aim to create long-term benefits for our teams, our customers, and the communities we serve.
We remain committed to reducing our environmental impact, adopting new technologies, and maintaining our leadership in responsible business practices.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue to build a smarter, more sustainable future.
